Autistic Spectrum Disorders |
| |
|
|
This is a term used to
describe difficulties with social understanding, communication and
flexible thought and behaviour arising from a developmental disorder.
People with ASD may have heightened sensitivity to touch, sight and
sound. They have difficulty with non verbal communication and may
present with socially inappropriate behaviour. Compulsive and obsessive
behaviours may be observed in ASD people. |
|
|
| The
extreme form is described as autism; Asperger’s Syndrome describes high
functioning autism, those who experience ASD difficulties yet whose ability
and language is in the ‘normal’ range. |
| |
|
Neurodevelopment therapy and sound therapy can help a person with ASD to
refine, improve and balance sensory input to the brain thus enabling a more
appropriate response to stimuli. |
